What is a certified document?

A certified document is one that has been copied, seen, witnessed and signed by a solicitor or public notary, Justice of the Peace, or Commissioner for Oaths in the UK. This may include a birth or marriage certificate, a Statutory Declaration, or qualification documents. Normally there is a small charge for this service.
