Skilled visas were introduced to overcome the skills shortages within the Australian workforce and to attract individuals who could bring valuable economic benefits to the Australian economy.  You can apply for a skilled visa if you have a skill on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Significant changes have impacted on Skilled migration applications from 1 September 2007. Skilled applications submitted before 31st August will not be affected by these changes. MODL points will be only be awarded for applicants that have worked in an occupation on the MODL (or closely related) for 12 months in the past four years. Recent skilled work experience of at least 12 months in last 2 years will be required for all skilled visas and applicants will need to have proven competent English.
